Seeking Balance in Life

So, it’s been an interesting week for me and I decided I would share it with all of you. The title of this blog is “Seeking Balance in Life” because that is what I have been striving for recently. The funny part is, the more I sought balance this week, the more it eluded me. Can you relate? (Wink, wink!)

Currently, I have a full-time job as an office administrator, I am a part-time ministerial student (seeking a Master’s of Divinity degree), and I do some life coaching on the side. It keeps me busy to say the least. Throughout the week, as I was challenged to keep up with everything, I began to realize I was feeling out of balance. I had to laugh at myself because I know that my schedule appears to be overwhelming to most folks. When I hear myself sharing the details with other people, I smile, knowing that their look of surprise is justified.

The reality of the situation is this: I have chosen to put all of this on my list of things to do. I consciously decided I wanted to pursue life coaching and ministry and I know I need to support myself by working full-time if I am going to fulfill my dream of becoming an ordained Unity minister. In other words, I’ve put myself in this position. And, ironically enough, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When I begin to feel unbalanced, there are a few things I can do to bring me back to center. Deep breathing helps immediately for those times when I begin to panic about not having enough time to complete everything. For long-term relief, I meditate on a regular basis which helps me to remember I am a centered, spiritual being have a human experience.  If I am faced with a significant challenge or if I am feeling completely overwhelmed, I often choose to journal. Writing out the reasons why I am doing all of these things helps remind me of the bigger picture.

Let’s face it. We are all going to experience the feelings of being out of whack or unbalanced from time to time. The good news is we don’t have to accept it as absolute truth. Instead, we can breathe into the present moment, remember what our goals are, and move forward with the knowledge that we have great things to achieve. Of course, it helps to have a network of friends who are willing to encourage us if we feel too overwhelmed. I continue to rely on my network of dear friends and I do my best to be there for them as well.

The next time you are feeling overwhelmed or if you feel like balance is out of your reach, take a deep, deep breath, remember where you are in the present moment, and continue to take action. We all have times of feeling unbalanced but we also know that when we regain that sense of balance, we are motivated even more. Keep going friends!
