Looking Back, Looking Forward

Living in the present moment…this is where the action truly is. Why is it, then, that I often find myself looking back at the past or forward to the future? What is that all about anyway?

I was reminded of this phenomenon when I read the following quote:

“Hindsight is an exact science.” ~ Guy Bellamy

Isn’t that the truth?  LOL! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve looked back, in hindsight, and had all the answers…after the fact. After seeing this quote, I immediately recognized the importance of being present in the moment. Living in the now is something I first learned about as I read some of Eckhart Tolle’s material. I remember hearing, for the first time, about life ALWAYS happening in the present moment. My goal now is to be present, in each moment, so I don’t miss anything.

The funny part about this for me is that I NEVER wanted to live in the present moment years ago. I thought it was better to review the past and hope to figure out the future rather than look at my present circumstances. In fact, I used to say I wanted to know what God’s plan was for me so I would know what was coming.

I promise you this. I’m grateful I didn’t find out what the plan was because I don’t think I would have dealt with it too gracefully. I had to face some serious challenges and if I had known they were coming, I would have run away and never looked back.

So, just for today, I will focus on living in the present moment. I will pay attention to my current surroundings and circumstances. I will listen…truly listen…to those I speak to today. And, I will appreciate these moments. No looking back or trying to see the future for me today. Today I am here, in this moment, living life to its fullest. Namaste friends.
