Just Say Thank You

Do you find it difficult to accept compliments? I do. It’s a challenge to accept praise. Can you relate?

The opposite is also true for me. If there is even the slightest hint of criticism directed at me, I will put all of my focus on that and ignore the rest. It’s like this: if I walk into a room and 99% of the people greet me with a smile, I’m more likely to worry about the 1% who don’t acknowledge my arrival! Silly, right?

Lately, I’ve been practicing the art of welcoming praise and accepting compliments. It goes like this…whenever someone says something nice about me, I say “thank you”. That’s it! I just say “thank you”.

This sounds simple but it is not easy. Try it and see what happens. It’s so challenging to stop after saying the words “thank you”. I tend to minimize the compliments with additional explanations of why I’m not as wonderful as people think I am. LOL! It’s a dilemma.

I challenge you this week. Try to accept compliments directly. Own the compliments. You are magnificent…live from that consciousness. See what happens. You might just be pleasantly surprised.

Have a great day!
